Terrafugia Transition Personal Sport Plane

Go from the street to the sky with no stops in between – the Terrafugia Transition Personal Sport Plane does it all. The 1,440-pound car/aircraft hybrid Terrafugia Transition has just been cleared for take off by the FAA and will fly under a "light sport" designation. This is great news for budding pilots, as a light sport pilot license only requires 20 hours of seat time, much less than what a full license requires. The Terrafugia Transition comes with all the standard equipment you’d find in a car, like airbags and crumple zones. However, it doesn’t go very fast while on the ground – it gets about 30 mpg when scooting around town. When the skies are clear for takeoff, the Transition can lower its wings, fire up a rear-mounted propeller and take to the air where it can carry a top speed of around 115 mph with a range of 460 miles.
